Welcome to the web site of Medicago truncatula functional genomics. This is the website of the NSF-funded project entitled "An integrated approach to functional genomics and bioinformatics in a model legume" which was active between September 2001 and August 2007
Medicago truncatula is a forage legume plant, closely related to Alfalfa. It is a rich source of natural products, some of which have beneficial nutritive properties, while others are important defenses against pathogens. This project studied how Medicago truncatula cells respond to fungal infections and ultra-violet light in great molecular detail using three major technologies of functional genomics: microarrays, proteomics, and metabolomics.
The project took place at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, the Plant Biology Division of the S.R. Noble Foundation, and the Department of Physical Sciences, South Eastern Oklahoma State University. The project was headed by Pedro Mendes (PI) and Rick Dixon (Co-PI).
